Enter the Graduate Meteorologist Program as a full-time, ongoing employee with the Bureau.

You'll be paid while you study and complete the 10-month intensive training course.

After successful completion of the course you'll move directly into a role at one of our operational centres across Australia.

Graduate Meteorologist Program

Throughout the program you'll:

  • learn meteorological theory and forecast procedures
  • find out how to use technology to view observation data and model guidance
  • be taught how to use the observation data to analyse the current state of the atmosphere
  • be trained to communicate weather conditions to the Australian community, media and specialised users
  • work as an effective team member in a service-oriented team.

Entry requirements: Australian citizenship, with an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in science, engineering or other field with relevant studies in physics to first year level and applied mathematics to second year level.

Graduate salary: $64,169 plus an additional 15.4% superannuation

Campus/location: Bureau of Meteorology Training Centre, Broadmeadows, Melbourne

Semester dates: January to November 2026, full-time on campus
